Cumbria Wisteria

A Plant Heritage National Plant Collection® of Wisteria species and cultivars

Chelsea Flower Show

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026 Gold Medal Winner

Fiona Butcher started collecting Wisteria in 2000 and has held a Plant Heritage National Plant Collection of Wisteria spp. & cvs since 2016.

Within the 90msq private garden in south Cumbria, the wisteria are planted in the ground and also grown in pots as bonsai. It is pretty much an exclusive wisteria garden, where the plants are pruned hard and kept nice and compact to maximise visual impact. The ethos of the collection is growing wisteria in a small space, in ways not normally asssociated with a large and vigorous climber.

All visits to the Cumbria Wisteria garden are by prior arrangement only, donations to Plant Heritage.

Please note Cumbria Wisteria does not sell plants and is not a commercial enterprise. We grow wisteria because we love them!

The Plant Heritage National Plant Collection®

The collection has built up overtwenty years into 62 Taxa, spanning 4 species, 6 hybrids and many cultivars.
